Adamson, FEU lady spikers contest crown!
Adamson and Far Eastern University (FEU) arranged a titular showdown after beating separate foes Wednesday in the UAAP Season 70 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Falcons trooped to the finals following a 25-19, 26-24, 25-18 win over Ateneo while the Lady Tamaraws dispatched defending champion University of Santo Tomas, 25-19, 25-19, 15-25, 21-25, 15-9.
The women’s best-of-three championship series starts on Sunday 2 p.m. at The Arena to be followed by the men’s best-of-three title showdown between FEU and UST at 4 p.m.
Michelle Segodine finished with 16 points while Rissa Laguilles chipped in 13 points for the Lady Falcons.
Adamson is aiming for its first UAAP women’s volleyball title since its inception in the league.
Rookie Shaira Gonzales scored 21 points including crucial points in the fifth set that gave the Lady Tamaraws the victory.
Gonzales clustered three of FEU's next four points to take a 10-6 lead in the fifth set as Daquis eliminated the Tigresses with the game-winning kill, 15-9.
The Lady Tamaraws are returning to the championship series after being beaten by the Tigresses last season.
Venus Bernal and Mary Jean Balse, who played their final collegiate game, had 24 and 16 points respectively.
